Chiang Rai Tours and Activities

A thrilling boat ride along the Mae Kok River ends with a visit to a traditional Karen hill tribe village. While here, visitors can also enjoy a half hour elephant ride through the countryside before continuing on to a local hot spring.

A visit to the Akha and Yao tribes will allow visitors to experience the authentic lives of the hill-tribe people. From here visitors can explore ruins and witness the panoramic views of the Golden Triangle. After that it is time to head on to the final destination on the itinerary, Mae Sai.

The historical monuments scattered throughout Chiang Rai have an interesting architecture that combines the influences of the Thai and Burmese styles. The most important of these monuments is the Wat Phra Kaew. Built in the twelfth century during the Lanna Empire, this temple is a must-see for everyone.

Visit the Mae Fah Luang Botanical Gardens and learn about the Royal Project on Doi Tung. Continue to Mae Sai, a bustling border town between Myanmar and Thailand. A visit to one of the jade-cutting factories here is of special interest.

Mae Salong, also known as Santikhiri, is an ethnic Chinese enclave inhabited by remnants of the Kuomintang (Nationalist) army of Chiang Kai Shek. After your visit to Mae Salong, you will head on to Therd Thai, where you can visit the former headquarters of the notorious drug baron Khun Sa.
